The studio announced on Tuesday (17) it had crossed the international box office threshold one month faster than its previous best time, established on Aug 16, 2008.

2012 marks the sixth year in a row that Universal has grossed more than $1bn at the international box office. 

Key drivers for the year-to-date include Battleship on $238m, Snow White And The Huntsman on $220m (pictured), American Pie: Reunion on $177.4m, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax on $99.7m and Safe House on $77.5m.

All the abovementioned titles remain in release and The Lorax is yet to open in the UK, Germany, China and France.

Meanwhile R-rated Ted and Oliver Stone’s drugs drama Savages are in the early stages of release and later this year UPI will release The Bourne Legacy, comedy Pitch Perfect, action-thriller The Man With The Iron Fists, likely awards contender Les Misérables and Judd Apatow comedy This Is 40.
