Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The Winter Soldier grossed a confirmed $109.8m through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International (WDSMPI) powered by a mighty China debut to boost the early tally to $209.4m.

Allied to the record $96.2m North American April launch and news that the studio has already reached an estimated $1.211bn worldwide for the year-to-date, the superhero sequel was in riotous form. The early global score stands at $304.4m

Captain America: The Winter Soldier scored Disney and Marvel Studios’ biggest debut in China on $39.2m (RMB 242m), potent enough to rank as the industry’s sixth biggest launch in history. Russia generated $7.7m and Australia $5.9m.

South Korea has generated a confirmed $19.7m, the UK $18.1m, Mexico $16.6m, France $12.1m and Germany $7.5m.

Winter Soldier stands at $7.2m in Italy, $6.8m in Taiwan and $6.3m in Malaysia. The Philippines has produced $5.6m, Spain $5.3m, Singapore $4.2m and Argentina $3.2m.

Imax delivered a record $6.5m April debut from 278 screens that beat $2.5m set by Obilivion and pushed the tally to $9.8m. China alone produced $4m that beat the previous high-water mark of $3.1m set by Iron Man 3. The company reported a record $16.1m global weekend haul that overtook the previously $7.62m set by Oblivion.

The film opens in Brazil this week and Japan on April 19. Chris Evans stars alongside Scarlett Johansson, Samuel Jackson, Anthony Mackie and Robert Redford.

Frozen will cross $700m later this week or next weekend after adding $8.2m for $698.4m. The global tally has reached $1.097.3bn. DreamWorks’

Need for Speed has reached $143.7m through WDSMPI and Mister Smith territories including new opener Spain through Tri Pictures/Dea Planeta. Muppets Most Wanted stands at $10.1m.

  • Paramount and Regency Enterprises’ Noah continued to enchant audiences and produced $45.6m in Paramount Pictures International markets to propel the tally to $106.2m and the global score to $178.5m.

Noah generated the fourth biggest launch and the biggest non-sequel debut in Brazil at number one on $8.5m from 528, while the UK returned a $4.2m number two debut from 452 sites.

The action epic opened in Germany on $3.3m from 502 to rank number one ahead of Captain America 2 and Rio 2, while Spain produced $3m from 363.

Noah scored the biggest debut of the year so far in Peru on $1.6m from 73 venues, $1.5m from 240 in Turkey for the biggest April debut in history and a new mark for star Russell Crowe. The film opened top in Argentina on $1.6m from 114 venues for another new mark for Crowe.

Russia led holdovers on $6.2m from 946 theatres for $26.6m after two sessions, while Australia added $2m from 264 for $7.5m. Noah added $1.5m in Mexico for $13.3m after three and $1.1m in South Korea for $14.3 after the same period. The epic arrives this week in France and Italy.

  • UPDATED: Rio 2 delivered $22.2m from 12 markets over the weekend and stands at $55.4m. The animation arrived in the UK on $4.8m from 995 and $3.5m from 1,026 in Germany. It opened well in Spain too on $2.1m. The stand-out result was the one from home as Rio 2 added $5.9m in Brazil from 1,165 screens for $15.7m after two weekends. A further $2.4m from Russia resulted in $24.6m after three sessions.

DreamWorks Animation’s Mr. Peabody & Sherman added $11.1m from 66 markets for $138.2m and added $6.5m in China for $15.4m after two sessions.

The Grand Budapest Hotel consolidated its status as Wes Anderson’s biggest hit outside North America with a confirmed $5.8m haul from 34 for $54.7m. It stands at $15.2m in the UK after five sessions.

The Book Thief has grossed $53.4m and The Monuments Men $76.5m. The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty stands at $128.5m and has amassed $7.6m in Japan after three weekends.

  • UPDATED: The Lego Movie grossed $7.4m from 34 markets to reach $160.1m, powered by a $5.7m Australian debut that Warner Bros Pictures International executives noted was good enough to deliver the biggest opening weekend for an animation in the Easter corridor and open a close second behind Winter Soldier. 300: Rise Of An Empire grossed $3.3m from 63 for $220.3m. The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug has grossed $692.1m.

  • UPDATED: Summit’s Divergent brought in a confirmed $10.9m from 44 Lionsgate International markets as the running total reached $22m. The YA action film arrived in the UK in fourth place on $2.9m from 423 screens and debuted in Mexico on $2.5m from 540 screens. It opened top in the Benelux on $1.4m. It opened at number two in Italy on $1.4m from 543 screens.

  • UPDATED: Rom-com Coho Apellidos Vascos added $7m (€5.1m) from 402 venues through Universal Pictures International to reach $34.1m (€24.6m). It was projected to overtake The Orphanage’s €24.8m mark on April 7 to rank as the biggest Spanish release in Spain and Universal’s biggest hit in the territory. See separate story.

47 Ronin stands at $111.2m and opened in its final markets. France produced $1.1m from 325 in fourth place.

Lone Survivor, which Universal distributes in Italy, the UK and South Korea, arrived in the latter on $852,000 from 244 in sixth place. The fiml has amassed $5m from Universal markets. Ride Along stands at $15.2m.  

StudioCanal opened The Double in the UK for $507,000 from 71 sites. Non-Stop has reached $15.2m (a fraction over £9m).
