One of the most eagerly awaited Greek films of the year, Brazilero will open Athens' 7th edition as a world premiere. The quirky comedy with socio-political undertones is directed by Sotiris Goritsas, whose most recent film Balkanizateur was a critical and a box office success for local distributor Rosebud.

Patrice Chereau's Intimacy, Guillermo Del Toro's The Devil's Backbone, Andrew Dominik's Chopper and Tom Tykwer's The Princess And The Warrior are among the international highlights. Tykwer will get a tribute section, as will the Marx Brothers. A spotlight will go to new Japanese cinema, with films screening including Ryosuke Hashiguchi's Hush, Yosuke Nakagawa's Departure and Takashi Miike's Audition. Julian Schnabel's Before Night Falls, John Cameron Mitchell's Hedwig And The Angry Inch and Sean Penn's The Pledge headline the American Independent Cinema section.
