Film Education UK has joined forces with Germany's educational body Vision Kino and the arthouse cinemas' association AG Kino-Gilde to launch Britfilms, a touring showcase of British cinema aimed at German schoolchildren, with accompanying teacher study guides and teaching materials.

The Britfilms tour begins October 18 in Essen's Lichtburg cinema with Damien O'Donnell's East Is East. October 24 sees screenings of Gurinder Chadha's Bride And Prejudice, Ken Loach's The Wind That Shakes The Barley, Nick Park's Wallace And Gromit, and Menhaj Huda's controversial urban drama Kidulthood which has its German premiere within the showcase.

The year-long tour was inspired by the successful Cinefete youth film festival for French cinema and is already booked up to mid-December at cinemas in Munster, Cologne, Oberhausen, Weimar and Osnabruck.
