The Academy on Friday (18) unveiled the features that advance in the voting process for the 84th Academy Awards, but Werner Herzog’s Into The Abyss, Steve James’ The Interrupters and Asif Kapadia’s Senna are notable absentees.

One hundred and twenty-four films had originally qualified in the category. The documentary branch screening committee will next select five nominees.

The documentary branch screening committee viewed all the eligible documentaries for the preliminary round of voting. The nominations will be announced on Jan 24, 2012.
