Fernando Meirelles' Cannes competitor Blindness will open the 28th Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax on September 11. Based on the novel by Jose Saramago and starring Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Danny Glover, Gael Garcia Bernal and Alice Braga, the Canada-Brazil-Japan coproduction was adapted for the screen by Don McKellar, who is also featured in the film.
