Warner Bros Pictures International will launch Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation in 49 markets in the days after the May 15 opening night gala in Cannes.

The Great Gatsby will open in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia and South Korea.

It is projected to finish on around $55m in North America this weekend behind the second session of Iron Man 3, after reports on Friday claimed it grossed it approximately $22m from Thursday night and Friday screenings.

The Warner Bros and Village Roadshow production Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Jay Gatsby, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, Joel Edgerton as John Buchanon and Tobery Maguire as Nick Carraway.
