Fashionbrand Carolina Herrera New York is launching its new 212Innovation Awards, with the first year to focus on film.

Thedesign company is working with the National Film and Television School in the UK for the awards, with support fromthe UK government's Arts & BusinessNew Partners scheme.

The competitionis open to aspiring film-makers who will submit short films on video or DVD about youth, innovation and Manhattan's lifestyle.

After entriesclose on September 15, and a panel including Herrera, NFTS head Nik Powell, Channel 4's Kate Vogel and other jurors will choosefive finalists. A gala awards ceremony will be held at London's Electric Cinema in November2006.

Thecompetition's winner will get career advice and a place on a short course at theNFTS and the chance to "shadow a major UK film director on their currentproject."

Each yearthe 212 Innovation Awards will focus on a different creative field. More informationwill be posted at the awards website.
