Sukee Chew of Los Angeles-based Hopscotch Pictures and Andrew Ooi of Vancouver-based Echelon Talent Management have launched a Singapore-based production and talent management outfit, The COcreative Company.

Both born and raised in Singapore, Chew and Ooi have more than 20 years experience as producers and managers. Chew focuses on literary management, representing writers and directors, while Ooi represents mostly Asian talent.

Their new venture is designed to package and produce feature films involving their clients. Projects in development include a biopic starring Maggie Q, written and to be directed by Dennis Lee; a romantic comedy by Stephanie Landon, to star Archie Kao, and a thriller from Todd Slawsby, which was rewritten with support from Singapore’s Media Development Authority and will be shot in Singapore.

COcreative is also presenting the international premiere of Jesus Henry Christ at the on-going ScreenSingapore. Produced by Chew and executive produced by Julia Roberts and her Red Om production outfit, the film stars Michael Sheen, Toni Collette and newcomer Jason Spevack. Korean-American Dennis Lee directed the film which is based on his 2003 short.

Chew’s Hopscotch Pictures is a literary management and production company. In addition to Jesus Henry Christ, she recently produced John Stockwell’s Dark Tide starring Halle Berry and Oliver Martinez.

Ooi’s Echelon manages talent including Chin Han, Archie Kao, Maggie Q, Josie Ho, Dustin Nguyen, Kenneth Tsang and Singapore’s Edmund Chen Zhicai. Through Hong Kong-based 852 Films, he executive produced three films – Pang Ho Cheung’s Dream Home, Wong Ching Po’s Revenge: A Love Story and The Courier, directed by Hany Abu Assad and starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Josie Ho and Mickey Rourke.
