Chow Yun-Fat has joined Michelle Yeoh in the cast of $30m costume drama Hua Mulan which is being produced by Yeoh's Mythical Films and Han Entertainment.

Described by Han managing director Thomas Chung as "Braveheart meets Ran", the film is scheduled to shoot in China from mid-August. Peter Pau, who directed Mythical's debut The Touch, is directing and the crew also includes renowned action choreographer Corey Yuen and Oscar-winning art director Tim Yip. The film is scripted by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon co-screenwriter Huang Wei Ling.

Meanwhile, Jean-Luc Defait's Deal and Pathe have teamed up to buy French-speaking rights to Han's Silver Hawk, also starring Yeoh, which is currently shooting in Shanghai with Jingle Ma directing. Han has also sold Korean rights to both Hua Mulan and Silver Hawk to Korea Pictures.
