An unfinished version of Miramax's church abuse drama Doubt will now screen as the AFI FEST 2008 opening night film on October 30 after Paramount pulled The Soloist on Wednesday [October 22).

Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams and Viola Davis star in John Patrick Shanley's 1960s-set story of a nun who confronts a priest she suspects of abusing a black student.

Scott Rudin and Mark Roybal produced and Shanley directed and adapted from his Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play. Miramax will release the film in North America on December 12.

'The movie is still being finished, but we were so excited to show Doubt and help our friends at AFI FEST and the American Film Institute at the same time,' Miramax president Daniel Battsek said. 'We couldn't possibly pass up the opportunity.'

'We are grateful to Miramax Films and producers Scott Rudin and Mark Roybal for providing AFI the honour of premiering this highly-anticipated, unfinished version of Doubt,' AFI FEST artistic director Rose Kuo said.

AFI FEST 2008 will run from October 30-November 9.
