A raft of projects fromacclaimed UK directors including Nicolas Roeg, David MacKenzie and PeterGreenaway have been selected for this year's Cinemart co-production market,which takes place during the International Film Festival Rotterdam (Jan 26 -Feb 6).

In all, 47 projects havemade the line-up out of 539 entries for next year's event, the largest filmco-production market worldwide.

Other high profile directorsmaking the selection with new projects include the US' John Sayles, Germany'sSandra Nettelbeck and China's Jia Zhangke.

"The content of the projectsreally reflect the state of the world in that they are rather dark," CineMartdirector Ido Abram told ScreenDaily.com. "It's a strong line-up withstrong projects about strong people in strong stories."

Young Adam director David MacKenzie's new Euros 4.4m project iscalled White Male Heart and is the story of the lifelong friendshipbetween two young men, raised as deerstalkers in the Scottish Highlands, thatis torn violently apart when a young woman arrives.

Peter Greenaway will belooking for funding partners for the Euros 4.8m 55 Men On Horseback.Billed as a story of love and lust on horseback, it's a late eighteenth centurytale of a man who tries to bed a woman by sending her 55 paintings of horses.

Meanwhile, Performancedirector Nicolas Roeg's new project is Puffball, a Euros 4.3msupernatural thriller about a young, pregnant architect. When she moves to amysterious English valley to build a house, witches turn against her unbornchild and her very survival is threatened.

Abram said the Cinemartline-up also includes highly promising projects from first or second timefeature directors, including France's Delphine Kreuter (Tu Es Dieu), UKshort film director Adrian McDowall (The Nana Saga) and Russia's MariaSaakyan (Majak).

The 2005 Selection is alsopresenting many projects from film-makers whose works were included in previousfestival editions, who were supported by the IFFR's Hubert Bals Fund or whohave been selected for previous editions of IFFR's Tiger Awards Competition:Albania's Fatmi Koçi (Tirana Year Zero), France/Chad's Mahamet SalehHaroun (Abouna) and the UK's Dom Rotheroe (My Brother Tom).

In past years, CineMart haspresented projects that turned into significant arthouse hits, including TheMagdalene Sisters by Peter Mullan, Fuse by Pjer Zalica, FatherAnd Son by Alexander Sokurov, Lost Embrace by Daniel Burman and TropicalMalady by Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
