New York-based consulting and sales outfit Cinetic Media is launching Cinetic International, a new unit which will offer clients a range of services including foreign sales, consulting, financing and packaging capabilities.

International sales veteran Shebnem Askin-Schreger, formerly president of 2929 International, will run the new division starting May 1.

“Territorial sales are part of our core finance business and an adjunct to our North American sales business,” said Cinetic partners John Sloss and Bart Walker along with senior finance executive Matt Littin in a prepared statement. “Shebnem’s arrival provides us with an opportunity to grow this at the highest level and offer film-makers and financiers an expanding menu of possibilities.”

Askin-Schreger began her career in 1989 at Film Pop, an Istanbul-based arthouse distributor where she acquired and distributed films including The Piano and Pulp Fiction. Moving to Los Angeles, she worked as vice president of international sales and co-productions for Trimark Pictures and in 1999 joined Pandora Cinema, relocating the company from Paris to Los Angeles and, as evp, worldwide sales, for Pandora/Gaylord Films, handling films including A Walk To Remember, White Oleander and Welcome To Collinwood.

Moving to 2929 International, the worldwide sales division of Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban’s 2929 Entertainment, she handled Good Night And Good Luck, Bubble and The Girlfriend Experience as well as We Own The Night, Two Lovers and John Hillcoat’s upcoming The Road.

Cinetic has previously specialized in domestic sales, famously on films like Sundance 2009 winner Push (now called Precious), The Diving Bell And The Butterfly and We Own The Night. The company has also closed worldwide deals on films like Little Miss Sunshine and Napoleon Dynamite, and raised finance for titles such as I’m Not There, The Fog Of War, The Limits Of Control, the next Julian Schnabel film Miral and the next Sofia Coppola film Somewhere.

Littin has spearheaded the company’s international financing activities to date.

Cinetic also incorporates Cinetic Rights Management, founded in 2007 to provide sales representation for digital media, and Cinetic Management, founded in 2007 on the arrival of Bart Walker to represent actors, writers and directors.
