Cobalt Media Group has boarded John Boorman's next film Knight's Castle, based on the novel by Edward Eager.

The aggressive financing and sales outfit, which confirmed its co-financing deal with BBC Films and BBC Worldwide on a slate of films today, is also backing new films from David Cronenberg and STOMP creators Luke Creswell and Steve McNicholas.

Castle, produced and directed by Boorman, will start shooting in August for ten weeks on location in Ireland and at Ardmore Studios. The fantasy adventure is the story of a ten year-old boy transported back to the days of Robin Hood and Prince John through a magical model castle he finds in the attic.

The Merlin Films production is scripted by Tony Grisoni and executive produced by Kieran Corrigan. No cast is yet attached. Boorman, who reinvented the Arthurian myth in 1980's Excalibur, has recent credits including The Tailor Of Panama, The General and Beyond Rangoon.
