Columbia TriStar/Revolution's Maid In Manhattan grossed an estimated $6.1m on 2,850 screens over the weekend, raising its international tally so far to $33.4m.

Columbia TriStar Film Distributors International (CTFDI) opened the romantic comedy strongly in Thailand, where it went to number one on $205,000 from 34 screens. In another impressive bow the picture grossed $340,000 (10.7m local currency) from 82 screens in Russia.

Studio executives expect a close number one finish to be confirmed this week and the bow compares well with American Sweethearts, which took 7.1m in local currency when it opened in Russia in Nov 2001.

CTFDI reported decent holds for Maid In Manhattan in all other territories with drop-offs in the mid-30% range. The picture is still to open in Spain, Italy and the Benelux markets. Revolution has arranged a separate licensing deal for Japan with Universal Pictures/UIP.

Figures were not available for the Korean opening.

CTFDI rolled out Revolution's horror picture Darkness Falls in Malaysia, where it stormed to the top on $172,000 from 25 screens.

The distributor also began to roll out Revolution's war-themed picture Tears Of The Sun. It opened number one in Singapore, Taiwan and the Philippines, grossing a combined $1m.
