The Producers Guild Of America (PGA) will bestow the Stanley Kramer Award on Sean Penn at its awards ceremony in Los Angeles on January 22.

The double Oscar winner earns the accolade due to his humanitarian work in Haiti and for a string of other causes.

The award is presented to someone “whose achievement or contribution illuminates provocative social issues in an accessible and elevating fashion.”

“We are proud to honour Sean Penn with this award as he truly exemplifies the Stanley Kramer legacy,” PGA awards chair Paul Wagner said. “Sean is a committed activist who has used his extraordinary talents and influence to shed light on powerful stories, causes and individuals — through film, journalism, and global humanitarian organisations.”
