Jan Rahbek’s 3D animated feature Carlo’s Casino is due to begin shooting this month

Danish director Jan Rahbek’s 3D-animated feature debut, Carlo’s Casino, which is due to start shooting this month, has received $1m (DKK5.4m) from the Danish Film Institute.

Produced by Thomas Borch Nielsen, the project was one of 50 films presented at Cartoon Movie’s annual co-production forum in Lyon (France), which ended Friday (5 March).

Scripted by Rahbek and Borch Nielsen, Carlo’s Casino is a musical comedy about Mani the Monkey, who works as a beach officer and is trying to win the heart of the beautiful Lulu, whilst at the same time disclosing his rival Carlo’s criminal undertakings.

It was the winning pitch at Copenhagen’s Nordic Talents, the annual showcase of graduation movies from the Nordic film schools organised by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

Jonas Severin will supply the musical score, and Peter Frödin, Tommy Kenter and Jan Monrad will lend their voices to the film which SF Film-Filmcompagniet will release in the summer 2012.
