Czech Director Jan Hrebejk's Divided We Fall was voted the inaugural winner of the UIP-sponsored Prix UIP for best European film at the Sydney Film Festival.

The prize, awarded in the contemporary world cinema section, carries a cash prize of $12,930 (Euros15,000) for producers Ondrej Trojan and Pavel Borovan.

Audiences also voted the picture the most popular feature among those shown at the State Theatre, one of the two festival venues. Prague-based Hrebejk, who was one of this year's festival guests, also earned this honour last year with Cosy Dens.

The most popular feature film at the Dendy Opera Quays was Nabil Ayouch's Ali Zaoua, a Moroccan/French/Belgium production.
