The freshly minted Dolphin Films International will launch at the EFM next month and kick off sales on the Mattel property through its new multi-year partnership with IM Global.

Max Steel will be a live-action origins story based on the long-running property about teenager Max McGrath and his alien companion Steel who combine powers to create the superhero Max Steel.

Open Road will release the film in the US in late 2014. Marvel Studios veteran Christopher Yost writes the screenplay and Stewart Hendler will direct.

Christine Perrin-Stocco, who has led all of Dolphin’s international sales for the past 12 years, will expand her role to lead Dolphin Films International.

IM Global will provide international sales, marketing, publicity, technical operations, legal and accounting support.

“Family films drive the leading box office results worldwide,” said Dolphin Films CEO Bill O’Dowd. “We’re thrilled to partner with IM Global and provide international distributors with powerful, branded films the entire family can enjoy.

“We couldn’t be happier to launch the division with Max Steel, a franchise film with studio clout that comes with the added value of being a successful Mattel property. I’m confident that Christine Perrin-Stocco will achieve the same success leading Dolphin Films International as she did propelling our TV and digital business overseas.”

“Quality family films are a much-needed product in the international marketplace, and we’re excited to partner with Dolphin Films International to capitalise on this demand,” said IM Global CEO Stuart Ford. “We look forward to their tentpole film Max Steel, which has all the earmarks of a huge success for independent distributors around the globe.”
