New Line's Freddy VsJason stayed atop the charts at theweekend as the top four remained intact, as sure a sign as any that the fadingsummer season has little left to offer.

The horror film dropped 63%and added an estimated $13.5m for a $61.5m running total in its second week. Itwas the first film since X2 inMay to stay top for two consecutive weeks.

The highest new opener wasTriStar's martial arts romp The Medallion in fifth on $8.2m, followed by Dimension's romantic comedy My Boss'sDaughter in 10th on $5m.

But overall it was alacklustre session as the penultimate weekend of the season mustered a lowly$86.2m from the top 12, the lowest level in four months.

In the independentlyfinanced The Medallion, JackieChan plays a police officer who develops supernatural powers thanks to amysterious talisman. Directed by Gordon Chan and co-starring Claire Forlani andLee Evans, the poorly reviewed film averaged $3,096 from 2,648 theatres.

The romantic comedy MyBoss's Daughter stars Hollywood'snewest heart-throb Ashton Kutcher and Tara Reid, with support from TerenceStamp. Directed by David Zucker, it was savaged by the critics and averaged$2,271 from 2,201 sites.

Elsewhere Columbia's S.W.A.T.stayed in second place and on courseto pass $100m with a $10.8m haul in its third week, raising its total to$88.1m.

Kevin Costner's acclaimed OpenRange, released through Buena Vista,stayed in third place in its second week, adding $9.4m for $29.2m. It just edgedout stablemate Freaky Friday,which stayed put in fourth on $9.4m for $74.5m in its third week.

Universal/Spyglass' awardsseason contender Seabiscuitclimbed one place to seventh on $6.3m, raising its cumulative score to $93.1m.

Marci X, Paramount's hip-hop mismatch comedy starring LisaKudrow and Damon Wayans, was a major flop, opening 15th on $865,000. It wasdirected by Richard Benjamin.

Next week's Labor Dayweekend marks the official end of the summer season and the only major releaseis United Artists' Jeepers Creepers 2, starring Jonathan Breck and Ray Wise.
