The second Libertas Film Festival begins Friday (Aug 25) with ascreening of Tommy Lee Jones' The ThreeBurials Of MelquiadesEstrada.

Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelsonare among the guests expected to attend the six-day festival in the picturesqueCroatian port of Dubrovnik. M. Night Shyamalan's Lady In The Waterwill close the festival following the awards ceremony Aug 30.

Other films in the FeatureNarratives selection include a number of firsts: Director MatijaKlukovic's competition entry Slow Days is the first independent Croatian film. Goran Dukic's contender Wristcutters: A Love Story, which premiered atSundance, is the Croatian director's first US-produced film. Branko Istvancic's The Ghost In TheSwamp (not in competition) is the first Croatian children's film. And Izodore Musallam's How Are You' (also not in competition) is the first motion picture from Saudi Arabia.

Other competition features includeRobert Altman's A Prairie Home Companion,Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos'Kinetta,South Korean director Sejin Hur'sHoney Moon, John Hillcoat'sAustralian-UK co-production TheProposition, Gela Babluani's13 (Tzameti),Terry Gilliam's Tideland, Simon Rumley's The LivingAnd The Dead, Jennifer Shainin and Randy Walker'sApart From That, and Dominik Moll's Lemming.

Capoteproducer Michael Ohoven will chair the jury, whichalso includes Portuguese producer Maria Joao Sighna,Croatian actor Goran Navojecand actress-producer Sanja Vejnovic.

The Focus Portugal sectionfeatures Joaquim Sapinho's Bosnia Diaries, MargaridaCardoso's TheMurmuring Coast, Antonio da Cunha Telles' Kiss Me, Joao Pedro Rodrigues'sTwo Drifters, and Manoelde Oliveira's Magic Mirror.

Documentariesscreening in competition include James Longley's Iraq In Fragments and DorkaGergely's Croatian-Hungarian co-production Libertas, aboutthe Dubrovnik hotel of the same name.

Iconic Croatian actor Relja Basic will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The festival will feature apanel discussion on promoting and marketing independent films; speakers willinclude Jason Klein (Special Ops Media, New York), HrvojeKrstulovi' (Blitz Film distribution, Croatia),and Chris Paton (DDA PR, London).
