E1 Films has taken UK and Irish rights for An Education, the Nick Hornby adaptation of British journalist Lynn Barber's memoir.

The film is fresh from its success at this year's Sundance where it won the world cinema audience award, dramatic and the world cinema cinematography award, dramatic.

The deal was negotiated by Alex Hamilton, director of E1 Films and Odyssey's CEO Ralph Kamp. Hamilton said 'We're delighted to have such an outstanding British Film.'

An Education is directed by Lone Scherfig (Italian For Beginners). BAFTA nominated Finola Dwyer (Backbeat, Me Without You) of Finola Dwyer Productions and Amanda Posey (Fever Pitch) produced.

It was financed by BBC Films and James D Stern's Endgame Entertainment and the cast includes Carey Mulligan, Peter Sarsgaard, Alfred Molina, Emma Thompson, and Dominic Cooper.
