Fearless,the latest martial arts epic from uber-producer Bill Kong, had a strong openingweekend (Jan 26-29) across Asia over the Chinese New Year holiday grossing $7.5mfrom six territories.

The film, directed by RonnyYu and starring Jet Li, Nakamura Shidou and Collin Chou, racked up a mighty $3.7m(RMB30m) in China and $1m (HK$7.8m) in Hong Kong.

It grossed a further $1.39m(NT$44m) from Taiwan; $612,756 (RM2.3m) in Malaysia; $592,232 (SG$962,970) in Singapore, and $145,157 (IDR1.4m) from Indonesia.

The figures have surpassedthe opening weekend box office of previous hits such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Heroand House Of Flying Daggers, alsoproduced by Kong.

Yuen Wo-ping (Crouching Tiger, Matrix) choreographed the film which tells the true story of martial arts legend Huo Yuanjiawho returns from self-imposed exile to fight in a tournament and save thehonour of his country.

Kong's Edko Films, whichco-produced the film with China Film Group, is distributing in China and Hong Kong. Buena VistaInternational is handling distribution in the other South-East Asian territories.
