EXCLUSIVE: Sierra/Affinity looks set to fire up the market with its biopic starring Catherine Zeta-Jones as Colombian drug boss Griselda Blanco.

UPDATED: Sierra/Affinity will introduce The Godmother to buyers next week and holds the life rights of Blanco, aka ‘The Godmother Of Cocaine’.

Eva Sørhaug will direct from a screenplay by Frank Baldwin, while Daniela Cretu produces through her First Born Films. Jon Bernthal from Fury, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Oscar Jaenada and Mehdi Dehbi will also star.

Nicholas Pileggi is executive producer alongside Sierra / Affinity’s Nick Meyer, Marc Schaberg and Kelly McCormick.

Production is scheduled to begin in spring 2015 on the film, which chronicles the rise and fall of Blanco, who rose to prominence in the 70s and 80s as the first and only woman to head a major Colombian drug cartel.

Blanco’s ambition played a large part in establishing the global reputation of Miami and fuelled the city’s drug wars before her arrest, sentencing and eventual murder in 2012 in Medellín.
