Screenwriter, playwright and cartoonist Jules Feiffer will receive the Writers Guild of America, West's (WGAW) ninth annual Animation Writing Award for lifetime achievement.

Feiffer's credits include Little Murders (1970) and Carnal Knowledge (1971), both of which earned WGA nominations, as well as 1980's Popeye, directed by the late Robert Altman.

He received the Ian McLellan Hunter Memorial Award for lifetime achievement in writing from the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) in 2004.

'Jules Feiffer is a name known to us all and whose work as a cartoonist and screenwriter has been distinguished, recognised, and awarded for decades,' WGAW president Patric M Verrone said.

The Writers Guild Awards will take place on Feb 11 in Los Angeles.
