IM Global is close to selling out the alien thriller Area 51, Oren Peli’s follow-up to the micro-budget smash Paranormal Activity that stands on the cusp of $100m in North America.

Stuart Ford, who expects to close a North American deal “imminently”, has finalised deals with Momentum in the UK, Concorde in Germany, Euro TV in France, Zelta in Spain, and Village Roadshow in Australia and New Zealand.

Rights went to PlayArte (Latin America), Svensk (Scandinavia), RCV (Benelux), Village Roadshow (Greece), and Gulf (Middle East.)

Peli recently wrapped principal photography on Area 51. Paranormal Activity has amassed $97.4m after seven weeks in the North American charts and should cross $100m by next weekend.
