Odd Lot Entertainment, Lionsgate and Mexican production and distribution company Videocine announced they are in pre-production on the English-language Mexican-US Jane Austen adaptation From Prada To Nada.

Cannes Golden Camera-winner Fina Torres will direct the Latina version of Austen’s celebrated novel Sense And Sensibility starring Adriana Barraza, Camilla Belle, Alexa Vega, Wilmer Valderrama and Kuno Becker.

Odd Lot International will commence pre-sales at AFM and Lionsgate will handle the North American release. Odd Lot, Lionsgate and Videocine are production, financing and distribution partners on the film. Odd Lot’s Gigi Pritzker and Linda McDonough will produce along with Rossana Arau and Gary Gilbert.

From Prada To Nadafollows two spoiled sisters who discover romance after they are left penniless following the sudden death of their father and forced to move in with their estranged aunt in East Los Angeles. Torres co-wrote the script with Chicano dramatist Luis Alfaro

“Fina’s decadent filmic style, combined with a socially relevant and hip story, drew together our exceptional and fresh cast,” McDonough said.

“I believe in telling stories with a cultural basis, and of course I also believe in smart deals – From Prada To Nada does both,” Pritzker added.

Odd Lot COO Bill Lischak structured the deal with Lionsgate president and co-COO Steve Beeks and Videocine vice-president Fernando Perez Gavilan.

Lionsgate executive vice-president of production Lisa Ellzey spearheaded the film’s creative development at Lionsgate.
