Till’s Icon makes first acquisition with The Way

In one of its first acquisitions since Stewart Till’s takeover of the Icon Group was completed last week, Icon Entertainment International has confirmed that it will handle worldwide sales for The Way, the new film from director Emilio Estevez.

Written and directed by Emilio Estevez, the film will see Estevez working with his father Martin Sheen who heads up a cast that also includes Deborah Kara Unger and James Nesbitt.

The Way is set along the thousand-year-old Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. It tells the story of Tom Avery, played by Sheen, an American father who travels to France to reclaim the body of his estranged son who died in a storm at the start of the famous route in the Pyrenees. Avery cremates his son’s remains, placing them in his backpack, and starts off on the journey his son never made to Santiago.

The Way is currently in production, shooting on location in Spain and across the Pyrenees. Other cast includes Angela Molina, Simon Andreu and Yorick van Wageningen. The film is produced by David Alexanian for Elixir Films, Julio Fernandez for Filmax and Emilio Estevez, co-produced by Lisa Niedenthal.

IEI will handle all international sales for the title excluding Spain and Portugal where Filmax has all rights.
