As Berlin’s EFM kicks off, a number of sellers have announced additions to their slates.
Andrew Herwitz’s Film Sales Company has come on board for Melissa Leo-starrer Francine, on the eve of the film’s world premiere in the Forum section at the Berlinale.
The film is directed by Melanie Shatzky and Brian M. Cassidy, whose The Patron Saints played in Toronto and Rotterdam.
Francine will have its US premiere at SXSW. The story is about a woman who prefers animal companionship to humans.
Herwitz said: “Melissa’s performance is breathtaking in this film. She is in every frame and quite extraordinary.”
Meanwhile, Shoreline has picked up worldwide rights to comedy Let Go.
Brian Jett’s debut feature stars David Denman, Gillian Jacobs, Kevin Hart, Simon Helberg and Ed Asner. The story is about a parole officer juggling three eccentric ex-cons. Jett is also seen in stand-up film Laugh At My Pain.
Ruskin said: “The stories of his interactions with all three build to a poignant and hilarious climax.” The Thousand Miles Entertainment production, shot is Los Angeles, is now ready for delivery. Jett and Leif Lillehaugen produced.
Also, Ida Martins’ Cologne-based sales agency Media Luna has added two official Berlinale titles to its slate.
Sacha Polak’s first feature film Hemel will have its world premiere in Forum.
Joachim Schoenfeld’s directorial debut Before Tomorrow will be presented in Perspektive Deutsches Kino.
Other titles on Media Luna’s EFM slate include Deanne Foley’s women’s wrestling comedy Beat Down, Mun Chee Yong’s Where The Road Meets The Sun, Franco di Chiera’s Aussie comedy Big Mamma’s Boy and two tango-themed films: Milongueros by Andrea Zambelli and Andrea Zanoli and docu-drama-romance Tanguero by Emanuele Perisco.
