German sales agents Cinepool and Beta Cinema did brisk business at last week’s European Film Market (EFM).
Cinepool sold Feo Aladag’s When We Leave (Die Fremde), which premiered in the Panorama section and was awarded the Europa Cinemas Label, to Turkey (Özen Film) and the Benelux (ABC Distribution/Cinemien) while Anno Saul’s mystery thriller The Door (Die Tuer) was picked up by Özen Film and South Korea’s Company L.
In addition, Urs Odermatt’s adaptation of Georg Tabori’s play Mein Kampf, starring Tom Schilling and Goetz George, was sold to AQS for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and the animation film Thor – The Edda Chronicles - currently in production - went to SWEN International for Latin America.
Meanwhile, Beta Cinema has sold the NETPAC Prize-winner Au Revoir Taipei by Arvin Chen to Germany (Arsenal Film), Austria (Polyfilm) and Switzerland (Trigonfilm) and is in negotiations for the bittersweet gangster comedy with buyers from Asia, Europe and the USA.
The first pre-sales were concluded on Philipp Stoelzl’s new film Goethe! to Greece (Nutopia), and the Czech Republic and Slovakia (Hollywood Classic Entertainment), with “advanced” talks underway with distributors from Italy, Frenace and the Benelux.
Beta Cinema also sold Alain Gsponer’s romantic comedy My Words, My Lies – My Love (Lila, Lila), starring Daniel Brühl and Hannah Herzsprung, to Atzec (Australia) and Peter Pan Pictures (South Korea), with interest from distributors from France, Italy and Spain. Simon Verhoeven’s Men In The City (Maennerherzen) went to Murena International for Russia and the Baltic states, and Maywin picked up Il Divo and Machan for CIS territories.
In addition, Sweden’s Svensk Film secured the Scandinavian rights for the children’s animation film Princess Lillifee (Prinzessin Lillifee) and pre-bought the sequel Prinzessin Lillifee Und Das Einhorn, which is currently in production.
