Argentina’s FilmSharks has licensed North American rights at EFM on the action comedy franchise to Music Box Films’ new Döppelganger label.

FilmSharks chief Guido Rud negotiated the US deal for the first four Torrente films in the series with Music Box CEO William Schopf.

Rud has also brokered a German rights deal for Torrente 4 [pictured] with Daniel Ó Dochartaigh of Cineglobal.

Santiago Segura directed all four episodes of the smash series about a politically incorrect police officer with a knack for finding trouble. Antena 3 Films, Amiguetes Entertainment and Bowfinger Films produce. New Line holds US remake rights to the Torrente property.

“We have sold the franchise over 40 countries now including France, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Latin America and Eastern Europe and this is the cherry on the pie as North America has been increasingly picky for foreign titles and Torrente has proven to work worldwide,” said Rud.

“We are receiving offers for Torrente 5 that will be delivered in the summer of 2014 since we announced the pre-sales weeks ago and there several offers on the table still to be approved by Segura in person.
