Berlin announces 22 films in Panorama section, with Korea well-represented; strand to bestow new award.

The Berlinale has announced one third of the films in its Panorama section, with titles including Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s Linda Lovelace biopic Lovelace, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut Don Jon’s Addiction, starring Levitt, Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore and Noah Baumbach’s comedy Frances Ha.

The first wave of Panorama titles also includes a handful of titles from South Korea, Latin America and Europe: “Alongside works by European filmmakers, such as Lars Kraume and Felix van Groeningen, films from Asia – and especially from Korea – have made a deep impression,” said Panorama director Wieland Speck. “This is also true of works from Latin America, which is alone contributing four directorial debuts.”

The major strand has also announced a host of documentary selections, including State 194, The Act of Killing and Gut Renovation. In total, the section today announced 15 features and seven docs.

Panorama will for the first year bestow the Heiner Carow Prize - with a monetary value of €5,000 - to a feature or doc that “employs extraordinary aesthetic means to deal with social and political issues, past or present”.
