The film has been written and directed by British director (and former Screen Star of Tomorrow) Sally El Hosaini.

Sally El Hosaini’s debut feature My Brother The Devil has won the Europa Cinemas Label for Best European Film in the Panorama Section at the Berlin Film Festival.

The prize means that the film will now receive support from the Europa Cinemas Network with promotion and incentives for exhibitors to extend the film’s run on screen.

The jury, made up of four exhibitors from the Europa Cinemas Network - Giacomo Caldarelli - Cinema Zenith (Italy), Sylvain Chevreton - Le Méliès (France),  Jörg Jacob - Provinz 80 Programmkino GmbH - (Germany) and Markus Wille - Filmclub im Takino (Lichtenstein) - described the film as a “refreshingly subtle film from a very talented new British filmmakers.

Hosaini, who was born in Swansea to Welsh-Egyptian parents, wrote and directed the film abouttwo Egyptian brothers from an immigrant family who fall into the neighborhood gang culture. It stars James Floyd, Saïd Taghmaoui, Nasser Memarzia and Fady Elsayed. A Screen Star of Tomorrow in 2009, Hosaini was also selected for the Sundance Directors Lab the same year.

2012 marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Europa Cinemas Network, and the eighth time the Label has been awarded in Berlin. Last year’s winner of the Berlin Europa Cinemas Label was German director Jan Schomburg’s Above Us Only Sky.

The Europea Cinemas Network extends across 64 countries, 1,057 cinemas and 2,891 screens.
