Paloma Faith to star in punk drama

EXCLUSIVE: Platinum-selling singer to star in feature from Wellington Films and Zentropa Sweden.

Platinum-selling singer Paloma Faith is to star in UK feature Untitled Punk Movie about the birth of the British punk scene.

The Berlin Co-Production Market project, about four youngsters hitchhiking to see The Sex Pistols during their infamous Anarchy In The UK tour, is produced by Alastair Clark and Rachel Robey of Wellington Films, with Zentropa Sweden co-producing.

Rat Scabies, drummer from the pioneer punk band The Damned (which supported the Pistols on the tour), co-devised the coming-of-age drama with writer-director Wayne Holloway, whose debut Snake and Mongoose, starring Jesse Williams, Noah Wyle, Ashley Hinshaw, and Tim Blake Nelson, is currently in post-production.

Faith has previously had feature roles in Anthony DiBlasi’s horror Dread, Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus and Ol Parker comedy St Trinian’s.

She told Screen: “I wanted to play Rhino instantly because it really rang true to me that people from disadvantaged backgrounds are always expected not to be intellectual, and Rhino, like so many people I am close to, challenges that perception.

“She has balls and she knows what she’s talking about. She’s a special girl and she is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in.”

The $2.2m (£1.4m) budgeted production is due to shoot in autumn 2013 and is currently casting supporting roles.
