Animated film is already a box-office hit in Argentina.

Juan José Campanella’s 3D animated comedy Futbolin will open the San Sebastián Film Festival on Sept 20.

It will mark the film’s international premiere (it was released in Argentina last month under the title of Metegol), and is out of competition.

In Argentina, the film is setting records and has already had more than 1 million viewers.

The Argentina-Spain co-production is about a smalltown bar worker who takes on a top footballer in a game of table football. The players in the table football game begin to speak to him.

Campanella won the Oscar for The Secret In Their Eyes.

Futbolin is produced by Plural-Jempsa and Atresmedia Cine in Spain, Jorge Estrada Mora Producciones in Argentina, in association with Cien Bares and Catmandú, and enjoys the participation of Canal +, Antena3, La Sexta and Telefé. The film will be distributed by Universal Pictures International Spain starting on December 20.
