EXCLUSIVE: Stuart Ford’s LA-based powerhouse is back in business with Lee Daniels and will introduce buyers in Cannes to the upcoming Janis Joplin biopic Get It While You Can to star Amy Adams.

CEO Ford confirmed the news on Thursday evening [2] and along with president Jonathan Deckter acquired international rights in a deal brokered with Jay Cohen of the Gersh Agency, which handles US rights.

Daniels will direct the potential awards vehicle starring Adams as the 1960s rock ‘n’ roll legend based on a screenplay by music industry veteran Ron Terry and Teresa Kounin Terry.

Bruce Cohen, who won the best picture Oscar for American Beauty and most recently produced Silver Linings Playbook, will produce with Ron Terry. Adams will serve as executive producer with Robert Katz, Jay Tobin and Andrew Sugerman.

Get It While You Can will chart Joplin’s tumultuous personal and professional life, from humble origins in Texas to global superstardom as one of the most unique voices in music. She died in 1970 aged 27.

Last year IM Global and Daniels stormed the Croisette with the all-star ensemble drama The Butler, which The Weinstein Company plans to release in October for awards season.
