Elle Driver announces three new titles ahead of Cannes

The French sales house also has five films in official selection, including The Silent House and Adrienn Pal.

Elle Driver’s Adeline Fontan Tessaur and Eva Diederix are rocking into Cannes with five films in selection and three new pick-ups to announce. Among the French sales house’s official selection films, The Silent House is generating great buzz amongst distributors. The film hails from Uruguay and is screening in the Fortnight.

Billed as a relative of Paranormal Activity by insiders, the genre picture is a study in suspense filmed in one continuous shot that lasts 78 minutes. Directed by first-timer Gustavo Hernandez, the film stars Florencia Colucci as a woman trying to leave a house that holds an obscure secret.

Next up is Adrienn Pal screening in Un Certain Regard. The Agnes Kocsis film stars Eva Gabor, Istvan Znamenak and Akos Horvath in a story referred to as a pedestrian/public transportation road movie as well as an inner road movie about a nurse in search of a long-lost friend.

In Critics Week, Elle Driver’s Women Are Heroes has a special screening. A documentary from contemporary artist JR, the film is a journey into the lives of women in faraway places. Another Critics Week special screening is Rubber, Quentin Dupieux’s horror indie comedy. Starring Stephen Spinella, Jack Plotnick, Wings Hauser and Roxane Mesquida, the film, about a tyre prone to destroy things via a telepathic gift,  has Internet fanboys all atwitter – it also incorporates the work of some of the biggest names in electronic music.

Rounding out the company’s officially selected titles is 5X Favela, an out of competition work incorporating five episodes all directed by filmmakers hailing from the favelas of Rio.

The two and a hald year old French sales house has also picked up upcoming German drama Hut In The Woods from Edukators director Hans Weingartner. The film stars Peter Schneider and Timur Massold and is co-directed by Cuneyt Kaya. A story about an unusual friendship, Hut In The Woods puts a boy with a troubled childhood together with a young man whose life is basically broken. When they find each other, the pair build a small cabin in the woods where their struggle for survival gives each of their lives a new meaning.

Also new is Hysteria, an English-language comedy starring Rupert Everett, Jonathan Pryce and Ashley Jensen. Directed by Tanya Wexler, Hysteria is based on a true story about the invention of the vibrator in Victorian England. A script will be available in Cannes. Crazy Heart producer Informant Media Partners recently added the film to its production slate. Shooting is set for this summer in London and Luxembourg;

Finally, the first images from Julien Leclercq’s The Assault will be available while a promo will also be available for the Kristin Scott Thomas-starring In Your Hands from Lola Doillon.
