The Serbian film-maker is a double Palme d’Or winner and has previously sat on the Cannes competition jury.

Serbian film-maker Emir Kusturica has been named as the president of the Un Certain Regard section at the upcoming 64th Festival de Cannes, which runs May 11-22.

The Sarajevo born director is one of only a handful of film-makers to win the Palme d’Or twice, for When Father Was Away On Business in 1985 and then ten years later for Underground. He was also namd best director at Cannes in 1989 for Time Of The Gypsies.

It is not his first time on a Cannes jury - in 2005 he presided over the competition section, when the Dardenne brothers’ Belgian drama L’Enfant scooped the top prize.

Last year’s Prix Un Certain Regard was awarded to Hong Sang Soo for Ha Ha Ha.
