FIP Germany readies Doctor, Rico
Fox International Productions (Germany) has lined up two films on the back of Matthias Schweighofer’s box office smash Break-Up Man, the top German release of the year so far on more than $24m.
The first of the new titles is teen comedy Playing Doctor to be directed by Marco Petry from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jan Ehlert.
The Lieblingsfilm Munchen production will shoot in Munich and Robert Marciniak and Philipp Budweg produce. Playing Doctor has received funding from Hessen Invest and the German Federal Film Board.
FIP Germany has earmarked a late summer start on the adaptation of Andreas Steinhöfel children’s book Rico, Oskar And The Pasta Detectives.
Director Neele Leana Vollmar [pictured] will shoot in Berlin and Leipzig and the film tells of a youngster who embarks on a wild hunt through Berlin to save his friend from what appears to be a kidnapping.
Alexandra Maria Lara will play Rico’s mother and the cast includes Elyas M’Barek, Ronald Zehrfeld and Milan Peschl. The film has received funds from the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the MDM Film Commission, the German Federal Film Board and the BKM (German Federal Ministry for Culture and Media).
“We are very happy to produce these two interesting projects and hope that both films will also be a big success at the box office,” said FIP Germany head of production and development Marco Mehlitz.
“With Playing Doctor and Rico, Oskar And The Pasta Detectives we can offer both theatre owners and audiences two real highlights they can look forward to,” added 20th Century Fox, Germany managing director Vincent de la Tour.
