EXCLUSIVE: Adaptation rights taken for Laura Kasischke’s bestseller.

French producer Charles Gillibert and filmmaker Alexandre Aja have jointly acquired adaptation rights to American writer Laura Kasischke’s bestseller In a Perfect World.

Former MK2 producer Gillibert, whose credits include Something in the Air and Laurence Anyways, has just launched his own company CG Cinema.

Aja is best known internationally for the 2010 horror comedy Piranha and recently co-wrote the screenplay for Franck Khalfoun’s Maniac remake.

In A Perfect World revolves around, newly-married, former flight attendant Jiselle, who is surviving life as a new stepmother to three children. Their lives are altered forever when a deadly flu epidemic breaks out.

“In A Perfect World is a suspense novel that holds all the emotional layers of a rich family drama, a world where terror, beauty and chaos walk hand in hand. A dystopian family drama, set in an environment of doom,” the pair said in a joint announcement.

Previous novels by Kasischke adapted to the big screen include The Life Before Her Eyes and Suspicious River.

Other projects on Gillbert’s slate include Olivier Assayas’ English-language debut Sils Maria, a new film by Atiq Rahimi and Dominique Abel and Fiona Gordon’s next film Lost in Paris.
