EXCLUSIVE: Kyle Newman’s action film, starring Samuel L Jackson and Hailee Steinfeld, sells to China, CIS and Latin America, among others.

Highland Film Group has reported a string of sales on RKO Pictures’ Samuel L Jackson and Hailee Steinfeld action film Barely Lethal, set to start shooting in autumn.

Deals have closed in China (Beijing LLC), former Yugoslavia (Blitz Film), CIS (Carmen Group), Malaysia (Clover Films), Middle East (Falcon Films), Israel (Five Stars), Singapore (Golden Village) and Poland (Monolith).

Rights have also gone to South Korea and Vietnam (Noori Films), Philippines (Pioneer), Latin America, Scandinavia and worldwide airlines (Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions) and Greece, India and Turkey (Tanweer).

Kyle Newman will direct from a screenplay by John D’Arco about a teenage assassin who fakes her own death and enrols in high school, only to be pursued by her former handler.

RKO Pictures president of production Vanessa Coifman and Ted Hartley produce alongside Brett Ratner and John Cheng for Rat Entertainment and Hopscotch Pictures’ Sukee Chew.
