EXCLUSIVE: Highland Film Group has reported a solid Cannes market and closed key sales on the Nicolas Cage crime thriller.
Rights have gone in France (Metropolitan), Germany (Ascot Elite), Scandinavia (Mis.Label), Latin America (Swen), Japan (Kadokawa), China (HGC) and South Korea (Line Tree).
Deals also closed in Spain (Inopia), Middle East (Falcon), Poland (Monolith), Israel (Five Stars), Indonesia (PT Amero), Portugal (Lanterna De Pedra), Philippines (Octoart), Thailand (IPA) and Turkey and India (Tanweer).
Highland struck further deals for South Afria (Blue Reign), Czech Republic and Slovakia (Padora), former Yugoslavia (Blitz) and Hungary and Romania (Prorom).
Crime thriller The Trust stars Cage and Jack Huston. The action centres on two crooked police officers who get thrown into a web of corruption after they discover a safe filled with mysterious contents.
Alex and Ben Brewer will direct from a screenplay by Ben Brewer and Adam Hirsch. Molly Hassell and Braxton Pope produce and Mike Nilon will serve as executive producer with HFG’s Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier on as executive producers.
The Trust is a Hassell Free Production in association with financier Electric Shadow Fund, the UK venture launched in January by Taylor, John Jencks and Alexa Seligman that plans to fund three to five films in the next year.
“Highland Film Group is dedicated to delivering buyers projects that are produced at the right budget and make commercial sense,” said Fraser and Perrier.
HFG’s Cannes slate includes Atlas Independent’s The Wright Girls starring Jessica Alba, Your Right Mind with Katherine Heigl and Ben Barnes and action comedy Barely Lethal starring Hailee Steinfeld, Samuel L Jackson, Jesicca Alba and Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner.
