The French director recently opened a lab in Paris for short film-makers; he will head short and Cinefondation jury.

French director Michel Gondry is to head up the short film and Cinéfondation jury at the 64th Cannes Film Festival.

He will present the three Cinéfondation prizes on May 20 and the Palme d’Or for the best short film at the closing ceremony on May 22.

The director, whose credits also include Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and The Green Hornet, recently opened the Amateur Film Factory at the Pompidou Centre in Paris, a studio space/laboratory offering film-makers the chance to make a short film in three hours.

He is no stranger to Cannes having screened three of his own films - Human Nature in 2001, un Certain Regard entryTokyo in 2008, and documentary The Thorn In The Heart in 2009 - at the festival.
