RADiUS-TWC has swooped on its second buy of the festival, taking North American rights to Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut Man Of Tai Chi.

The acquisition took place on Tuesday night following a move earlier in the day by The Weinstein Company for Passengers, the sci-fi romance that will star Reeves alongside Reese Witherspoon.

Man Of Tai Chi is set in modern Beijing and centres on the spiritual journey of a young martial artist who gets involved in the world of underworld fight clubs.

Tiger Hu Chen, who trained Reeves in the Matrix franchise, stars opposite Iko Uwais from The Raid and Jeremy Marinas. Michael G Cooney wrote the script and Lemore Syvan is the producer.

The China Film Group, Wanda Media, Village Roadshow Pictures Asia and Universal Pictures production is scheduled for release in the fourth quarter.

TWC COO David Glasser and RADiUS co-presidents Tom Quinn and Jason Janego negotiated the deal with CAA. Earlier in the festival RADiUS-TWC acquired Blue Ruin.

  • Adopt Films has acquired all US rights to Swiss director Sophie Huber’s documentary Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction.
