Critics’ Week serial killer thriller/drama sparked a bidding war.

Revolver Entertainment has taken UK rights to Justin Kurzel’s Critics’ Week film Snowtown.

Protagonist Pictures is handling worldwide sales, and also sold French rights to ARP.

There was said to be a bidding war for the UK rights.

The UK deal was negotiated by Revolver’s new Head of Acquisitons Dave Bishop, Charlotte Van Weede and Ben Roberts for Protagonist.

Madman has Australia rights and opens the film theatrically tomorrow. The film was a critical and audience hit upon its world premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival.

The film is based on true events, about a teenage boy who falls under the spell of a father figure who turns out to be a serial killer. The cast features Lucas Pittaway and Daniel Henshall.

“The response to the film has been amazing,” said Protagonist’s Van Weede. “Justin Kurzel’s incredible talent shines through and we are confident that both Revolver and ARP will do the film justice in every way. “

“This is the first time Revolver has had the opportunity to work with Warp and Protagonist,” said Revolver CEO Justin Marciano. “We’re looking forward to delivering this powerful and uncompromising film to UK audiences.”

Snowtown is the first feature produced by Warp Films Australia, headed by Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw. Backers of the film include Screen Australia, Film Victoria, the South Australian Film Corporation, Adelaide Film Festival and Omnilab Media.
