Sony Pictures Classics has swooped on North American rights to Jim Jarmusch’s vampire tale Only Lovers Left Alive in Cannes ahead of the world premiere on Saturday [25]. Hanway Films handles international sales.
Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, John Hurt, Anton Yelchin and Jeffrey Wright star in the story, which takes place in Detroit and Tangier as a disillusioned musician reunites with his enigmatic lover of many centuries before her wild sister enters the fray.
Jeremy Thomas of Recorded Picture Company and Reinhard Brundig of Pandora Film produced Only Lovers Left Alive and Christos Konstantakopoulos of Fairilo House served as executive producer.
“It would take a stake through the heart to keep [SPC’s Michael] Barker, [Tom] Bernard and [Dylan] Leiner away from a good movie,” said Thomas.
“Tangier, Detroit, vampires, guitars – and now Sony Classics – what else is there to say?” added Hanway managing director Thorsten Schumacher.
“Only Lovers Left Alive is one of the great Jarmusch pictures and American audiences will love it,” said Sony Pictures Classics. “We are excited to be back with Jim and our great friends Jeremy Thomas and Tilda Swinton, whose performance along with the rest of the cast is fantastic.”
Schumacher and Jan Spielhoff of HanWay Films negotiated the deal with ICM Partners.
