The Match Factory has four world premieres in Cannes

The Cologne-based sales agent – who holds the international rights to all of Aki Kaurismaki’s productions – is handling the Finn’s new tragicomedy Le Havre, which has been invited to screen in Competition. The co-production by Sputnik Oy, Pyramide International and Pandora Film will be released by Pyramide Distribution in France this November.

The Match Factory’s other three premieres will all be screening in Un Certain Regard.

Andreas Dresen’s Stopped On Track (Halt auf freier Strecke) is the sales company’s third title from the German director after it handled Whisky With Vodka and Cloud 9. The latter film was shown in Un Certain Regard in 2008. Produced by Dresen’s “regular” collaborator Peter Rommel, Stopped On Track tells the story of a happy family who are wrenched out of their idyll when the father is diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Singaporean director Eric Khoo’s animated feature Tatsumi is based on Yoshihiro Tatsumi’s autobiographical novel A Drifting Life and is a tribute to an artist who sought to make comics cinematic and was a pioneer in the Japanese comic scene from the late 1950s.

Norwegian director Joachim Trier’s second feature Oslo, August 31st follows a man in a deep existential crisis over 24 hours as he wanders through the Norwegian capital, confronted by the ghosts of past mistakes and the chance for new beginnings.
