Village Roadshow Entertainment Group (VREG) has become an investor and partner in Hong Kong-based production outfit Irresistible Films.

VREG is taking an undisclosed stake in Irresistible. In addition, VREG CEO Greg Basser will join the Irresistible board. Ivy Ho, who has managed Irresistible for the past three years, has been promoted to managing director.

Irresistible was founded in 2008 by Edko Films’ Bill Kong, Hamon Investment Group’s Hugh Simon and Japan’s Avex Group to work with new filmmakers on projects with strong box office potential.

The company is currently developing Cold War 2 with directors Longman Leung and Sunny Luk – the sequel to their 2012 action thriller that was a big hit in Hong Kong and China.

In addition to Cold War, Irresistible has produced another six films including Roy Chow’s Nightfall and Han Yan’s First Time. The company is working with both directors on their next films.

VREG recently founded a Chinese operation, VREG Asia, which co-produced Keanu Reeves’ Man Of Tai Chi and Stephen Chow’s Journey To The West: Conquering The Demons, which is one of the top-grossing local films of all time in China.

“We feel privileged and honoured to join this ground-breaking partnership” said Basser. “Thanks to the bold vision of Bill, Hugh and Avex, Irresistible is functioning not only as a successful film production company, but also as a catalyst for important changes in the way films are developed, produced and distributed in Asia.”
