The first LondonMexFest will take place August 17-19.

The first ever LondonMexFest, a three-day event designed to celebrate all things Mexican, will take place at RichMix, as part of the Shoreditch Fringe Festival, 17th-19th August.

The festival opens with the world premiere of Made in Mexico (Hecho en Mexico), “a kaleidoscopic portrait of the music of Mexico, its people and their way of life, by UK filmmaker Duncan Bridgeman.” The event will be followed by a live performance from Mexican Anarcumbia singer, Amandititita.

The closing film is Mexican director Michel Franco’s first feature Daniel and Ana (Daniel y Ana). Franco’s second feature, After Lucia, went on to win the Un Certain Regard prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Actor/director Diego Luna will be amongst the guests attending the festival. Luna, whose films Abel and Revolucion will screen as part of the festival, will be in conversation on August 18.

Over the weekend there will also be screenings of several rarely-seen Mexican sci-fis, including Santo vs. the Martian Invasion, The Aztec Mummy vs the Human Robotand The Ship of Monsters.

The LondonMexFest is presented by The British Council, The Mexican National Council for Culture and Arts, The Mexican Film Institute, Morelia International Film Festival, Ambulante and Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal’s Mexican production company Canana.
