Montreal-based genre festival also announces final wave of programming, including world premieres of Curse of Chucky and Zombie Hunter, starring Danny Trejo [pictured]. 

With its 17th edition kicking off next week on July 18, Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival has unveiled this year’s juries and the final round of its 120-strong feature lineup.

Critic Laura Kern will preside over the Cheval Noir jury for best film, which also includes filmmaker Jean-Pierre Bergeron, co-director of the New York Asian Film Festival Samuel Jamier, SXSW’s Jarod Neece and Snowfort Pictures founder Travis Stevens.

The New Flesh award for best first film will be decided by jury president Charles de Lauzirika, composer Ramachandra Borcar, journalist Manon Dumais, filmmaker Jason Lapeyre and author Stéphane du Mesnildot.

Filmmakers Patrick Bouchard and Luc Chamberland will decide the Satoshi Kon award for achievement in animation along with Ottawa International Animation Festival programmer Keltie Duncan, while Black Nights programmer Sten-Kristian Saluveer, Bold Films’ Garrick Dion and filmmaker Frédérick Maheux will judge the international short film competition.

Leading the final round of programming announcements are the world premieres of Don Mancini’s Curse of Chucky, with Mancini and select members of the cast in attendance, and K. King’s Zombie Hunter, starring Danny Trejo as a ghoul-killing priest.

The final wave of features announced for this year’s Fantasia includes eight international premieres: Toya Sato’s Gatchaman; Henry Saline’s Bounty Killer (with actors Christian Pitre and Barak Hardley in attendance); Neil Breen’s Fateful Findings; Aaron Schimberg’s Go Down Death (with Schimberg in attendance); Quang Dzung Nguyen’s The Lady Assassin; Brendan Muldowney’s Love Eternal (with actress Pollyanna McIntosh in attendance); Josh Waller’s Raze (with Waller and actress Zoë Bell in attendance); and Katie Graham & Andrew Matthews’ Zero Charisma.

Fantasia’s Documentaries from the Edge section returns for 2013, showcasing the likes of Jeffrey Schwartz’s I Am Divine and Josh Johnson’s Rewind This!, while the festival will also co-present a trio of silent-era comedies with the Just For Laughs festival on July 22.

Alongside its 120 features, Fantasia will also screen over 200 short films in front of select features and in a range of short film showcases.
